Madagascar hosts Regional Workshop on the protection of whistleblowers and witnesses

Antananarivo, September 15, 2026 – Madagascar is hosting, from September 15 to 17, 2026, a regional workshop dedicated to strengthening the  protection of whistleblowers and witnesses in the Indian Ocean islands. Jointly organized by the Integrity Safeguard Committee  (CSI)  and the Independent Anti-Corruption Bureau (BIANCO), with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), the workshop brings together the Comoros, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Madagascar. The opening ceremony was presided over by Ms. Fanirisoa ERNAIVO, Keeper of the Seals and Minister of Justice.

The  work  will focus on sharing experiences, good practices, achievements, and challenges encountered by participating countries in the area of ​​whistleblower and witness protection. The exchanges aim to identify areas for improvement and lay the foundations for a common roadmap to strengthen protection mechanisms at the regional level.

Through this initiative, Madagascar reaffirms its commitment to integrity, transparency, and the fight against corruption, in accordance with the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC). The work undertaken at the national level now paves the way for the establishment of a dedicated legal framework, providing concrete safeguards and effective protection for whistleblowers and witnesses.
