Environment : Strengthening the fight against corruption at DREDD Boeny and MNP Ankarafantsika
Mahajanga, 25–26 March 2026 – As part of its efforts to strengthen the fight against corruption (FAC) in the environmental sector, the Independent Anti-Corruption Bureau (BIANCO) organized a training workshop that brought together around thirty officers and Judicial Police Officers (JPOs) from the Boeny Regional Directorate of Environment and Sustainable Development (DREDD Boeny) as well as from Madagascar National Parks (MNP) Ankarafantsika.

This training session was conducted within the framework of a partnership between BIANCO and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). In a context where environmental protection is a global priority, the workshop aimed to strengthen participants’ skills in governance, integrity, and transparency, with a view to promoting sustainable and responsible development.
Corruption in the environmental sector constitutes a major obstacle to the effective implementation of public policies and the preservation of natural resources. Accordingly, the modules covered the framework of FAC, the different forms of environmental corruption, applicable legal frameworks, control mechanisms, and reporting channels available to officers.
Through participatory methods—including skits, group work, and concrete case studies—participants were able to deepen their understanding of the issues specific to their local context. These exchanges also promoted the sharing of experiences and the recognition of good practices.
This initiative is part of a proactive approach aimed at promoting an ethical, transparent, and responsible work environment. The trained officers now have enhanced capacities to prevent, detect, and report acts of corruption, thereby helping to strengthen public trust in institutions responsible for environmental protection.
In collaboration with BIANCO, DREDD Boeny and MNP Ankarafantsika reaffirm their commitment to making FAC a strategic focus in the sustainable management of natural resources. They also expressed their determination to apply the knowledge gained from this training in their daily activities, reflecting a strong commitment to ethical governance in support of a sustainable and equitable future for generations to come.
